Technology

The Technology curriculum focuses on teaching the students to be good digital citizens. Preschool and Kindergarten students focus on computer usage, primarily mouse and introductory keyboard skills. In 1st-5th grades, students gain real-world skills in keyboarding, word processing, presentation, drawing and spreadsheet software applications. They also learn about computer science, through coding and robotics units. In 6th-8th grades, students have a stronger focus on computer science utilizing Scratch, CS First and code.org Computer Science Discoveries curriculum.
 
- St. Francis de Sales has a computer lab with 26 Windows desktop computers. Students enrolled in Pre-K through 8th grade utilize the lab.
 
- Students in K-3rd grade are 1:1 with iPads which are utilized in several classes and for iReady Personalized Learning Path.
 
- 4th-8th grades are  1:1 with Chromebooks which are utilized in several classes for iReady Personalized Learning Path.
 
- The majority of the academic classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and all have a desktop computer for the teacher.
 
- Robotics is incorporated into the Technology curriculum. The lab has six Dash robots the students can program, and two Ollie robots that students can control via an app.
 
- Digital Citizenship is a key area of focus for K-8th grades, utilizing the Common Sense Media curriculum.
