Virtual Fair Showcases Student Scientists

St. Francis de Sales School (SFS) will be sending nine students to compete in regional competition after hosting its first-ever Virtual Science Fair. On Feb. 3-4, 14 volunteers with STEM backgrounds divided up and reviewed 25 science fair projects developed by SFS’ 8th grade class. The judges evaluated written reports as well as presentation slides. Students diligently presented their science projects virtually and answered questions posed by the judges.

Following the event, SFS Middle School Science Teacher Rita Salit announced the following individuals qualified for the IJAS Virtual Regional Science Fair:

Andrea F.: Battery Size vs. Time
Abby H.: Surfin' on Radio Waves
Lilly K. & Meghan W.: How Music Affects Accuracy
Philip K.: Green Energy
Annabella O.: Does What You Think Something Is, Affect How You Smell It?
Joseph Q.: Is this Helpful for Blind People?
Evan V.: The Corked Bat: Powerful or Pointless?
Elizabeth V.: Do the Movies We Watch Affect How We Sleep?
Congratulations to all of the 8th graders for their hard work…and good luck to those that are advancing to the regional event.
