SFS Students Serve Others to Begin 2020

From the Principal's Desk

The St. Francis de Sales School community has had a great start to 2020 with a variety of events meant to love and serve others.

In early January, the school community raised a total of $2,000 for the Mazur family through an out-of-uniform fundraiser. Fr. Ryan will personally deliver a check to the Mazur family. Our preschool and kindergarten classes made cards for Teegan and Fr. Ryan has been visiting the Mazur family daily in the hospital and delivering the cards for us! What a wonderful show of support for a new family in our community.

Additionally, the school community concluded two other service projects recently, raising $671 to support a Cystic fibrosis foundation (Candy Cane sale) and $3,101 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (proceeds from the project led by 8th graders Julia B. and Ashley R.).

We have two ongoing events as well. The school is collecting donations for the Proverbs Project in partnership with the parish effort being led this year by Giacomo Armagno, a graduate and alum of our great parish school, to clothe and serve the homeless of Chicago. Finally, the Faculty & Staff Food Drive kicked off on Jan. 10 in support of the St. Francis de Sales Parish St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

These are just a few of the many examples of how this school community is mindful of others. We look for or create opportunities to demonstrate our love and support for others within and beyond our community.
