If you have turned in all of your assignments, then you can complete additional science article summaries for extra credit (up to 2 pts for each article). You are allowed to complete no more than 2 extra summaries.

You will be required to summarize at least 2 science related articles each grading quarter. You will read an article of interest to you (this is important - make sure the topic is something you want to know more about!). Each article summary will be worth 10 points for full credit. This means that you must answer each question thoroughly in the template provided.

This assignment is something you can work on when you have finished other assignments during classtime.

If you have completed your 2 articles for the quarter and you have nothing else to complete during class time, you are welcome to complete up to two additional worksheets worth 2 extra credit points for each article.

Article Summary Worksheet #2 - Due by Oct 18

Using the template below, prepare frayer models for the following vocabulary words from the Classifying Matter Text pp 8-11: element, atom, chemical bond, molecule, compound, chemical formula.

These were handed out in class hard copy. You will complete them, place them in sheet protectors and then and put them in your Vocabulary section of your science binder. Once you have completed them, mark this assignment as DONE.

Complete the Study Guide, make a copy for yourself, submit to this assignment tab.

1) Record the following in your Black Spiral Science Notebook

Important Vocabulary for Scientific Experimentation
Observation - the use of your five senses to gather information about the natural world

Qualitative observation - an observation that describes an object by quality or description using your senses but without using numbers.

Quantitative observation - an observation that uses numbers and units, for measurement or description.

Inference - an assumption made based on an observation that may or may not be true.

Leave 1 or 2 pages of space in your science notebook to add more definitions to this section later .

2) Complete the attached worksheet(WS) by answering the questions at the end (Questions 1-8) and submit the WS to this assignment tab.

Please print out the attached Safety Contract, read through it with your parents. Fill out the bottom portion of the contract with your name and signature and have a parent sign as well. Take a picture of the signed contract and submit to this assignment tab.

When you take a picture using your phone, you need to upload the image to your Google Drive (school account). Then you can go to this assignment tab and "turn in" to this assignment.

If you have trouble, your second option is to bring in the signed hard copy agreement

Third option, if you have trouble printing, your parent can e-mail that you both of read and agree to the contract.
