Today, you will be reading about the growth of the superpowers and the incidents that occurred during Kennedy's and Johnson's presidencies. Please take notes on T15.5, p. 836-843, from the headings Kennedy, Johnson, and Vietnam up to but not including The Vietnam War Begins. Note: Kennedy's religious beliefs and what he needed to state to reassure the public about his beliefs; what medium helped Kennedy to win the election; what happened in Cuba, a country just south of Florida (include the type of gov't there, why people fled Cuba and how the Bay of Pigs ended poorly for America); state what happened in Cuba regarding input from the Soviets and why WWIII could have begun; what were the compromises that the U.S. and Soviets made as a result of the Cuban Missile Crisis; whether Communism was contained; four programs started under Kennedy and their purposes; define Johnson's Great Society and why some people approved of Medicare and Medicaid, job-training programs, and loans to needy farmers and businesses in poor city sections, and why some did not.
Your notes are due by 3:00 pm.

We will have a Google Meet on Tuesday, reviewing pros and cons of Kennedy's & Johnson's administrations and I will set the scene for the Vietnam War.

Note the definition of segregation, examples of how groups were experiencing discrimination; what association helped African Americans; describe two events in the 1940s that broke some segregation barriers; and explain the Plessy vs. Ferguson court case and the Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka Supreme Ct case; note whether most people wanted to desegregate schools willingly; state the name of the association that helped Mexican Americans fight for their civil rights; and note if Mexican Americans were allowed to sit on juries during this time.

You will be completing notes on p, 804-808 from the Heading T15.2 Korea and Other Postwar Conflicts up to but not including A Cold War Around the Globe. Turn the notes in by 3:00 pm today.

Remember, on Tuesday you do not have class; it is an E-Learning Planning day.

On Wednesday, we will have an Google Meet. We will review a World Map and locate where many of these post WWII wars occurred. You will also complete a quick assignment.

On Thursday, we will continue to learn the effects that the Cold War had on our country and others. On Friday, you will complete a short assessment.

Good Morning!

Attached you will find your T15.1 Assessment regarding the events during the beginning of the Cold War.

There are three portions to this assessment. The first is matching, #1-7, the second is a paragraph answer, and the third is a map drawing. These assessments are on Google Slides so you may use text boxes to answer the first two portions. For the third portion, you may use the Google Slides scribble function next to the shapes icon to draw your map and use the text boxes to label OR you can print out the slide with the map directions, draw and label your map neatly according to the directions, take a picture, and turn it in. This assessment is due at the end of your class period.

I hope that you had a wonderful Easter and that you enjoyed your four days off of school.

Today, please finish your WWII notes, from p. 788-793. Begin with the heading Japan Surrenders and finish through Postwar Challenges. Review your maps and notes understanding which countries were affiliated with which side, either Allied or Axis Powers. Note that the Soviet Union primarily fought with the Allied Side once Germany turned on them early in the war. When you have completed your notes, turn them in. The notes are due by 3:00 pm.

Your five paragraph essay and map on WWII will be due on Friday, April 17th. I will post more information and resources regarding the assessment on Thursday morning.

This is your 5 paragraph essay question on the WWII test. In your essay, you must give three specific examples: one must be about WWII; one must be from another event in history; and the final must be about you-how can/did you make a difference in someone's/others' life/lives? The first paragraph is your introductory paragraph, the next three paragraphs deal with the specific examples (one paragraph each), and the final or fifth paragraph is your concluding paragraph. I will attach articles/videos to help you with WWII on Wednesday.

The second assignment, requires you to read the attached article and then respond to the following questions:
