Today, you will be reading and and answering the attached questions about the different groups that moved west to settle the land that the U.S. won from Mexico during the Mexican Cession, from p. 358-362, beginning from the heading Settling the Mexican Cession up to and including Changes to the Region.

On Tuesday, you will have a Pearson game assignment and paragraph assessment on Manifest Destiny. Make sure you know what the definition of Manifest Destiny is and how the United States realized its dream of Manifest Destiny. You may want to review the ways the U.S. gained the land in Texas and the Southwest part of the current day United Sates.

On Wednesday and Thursday, you will be learning about the regional differences between the North and South as it related to the way they made money in the 1800s.

Hello,

We will be meeting through Google Meet tomorrow during ninth period. I will go over the instructions for the maps that I want you to fill out and the games that you can play so that you can learn the locations of the Northern and Southern States plus the remaining 17 states. The more you play, the easier it will be for you to remember our 50 states.

Directions: Please write the name of each state neatly plus write the two letter abbreviation for each state underneath the full name. For the smaller states, you may need to draw a line and neatly write in the name and abbreviation of each state. Remember to capitalize each state's name and use capital letters for each states' abbreviations. You will need to look up the abbreviations on line or use the games for help.

Turn in the Northern and Southern State maps according to the directions when you have finished.

Good Morning! I hope that you had a good Spring Break with your family!

Please read p. 282-287 regarding Monroe's Presidency and the nation's regional views. Then, fill in the attached Google Doc chart regarding the North, West and South's general feelings about the issues regarding: whether they wanted the War of 1812; the amount of power each felt the federal gov't should have; whether or not they agreed with slavery as a whole: and whether they favored a tariff or not. Make sure to fill out the reasons the textbook gave for the slavery and tariff issues. Your assignment is due by 3:00 pm. Please turn it in.

Lewis & Clark Quiz in Google Classroom

Lewis & Clark Quiz

Your objective/goal for today is to note the three main goals that President Jefferson wanted Lewis & Clark to achieve during their expedition of the Louisiana Purchase.

You will accomplish this by reviewing your notes from the textbook regarding the Lewis & Clark expedition AND watching the attached 4 minute YouTube video. One of the goals in the video is slightly different than one of the goals in your textbook. Make sure that you add that slightly different goal in your notes and also explain whether or not they achieved that goal and the three other goals in your journal entry below.

After watching the video, you will imagine that you are on the expedition with Lewis & Clark and you will write a journal entry on a Google Doc explaining whether or not those three goals were met. Write a date corresponding to a date during the expedition and describe what you saw regarding the geography of the land, the people that you met, and the goals that were accomplished or not. Look in your notes, and on the maps you filled out, and in the video for evidence to support whether or not the goals were met. You should write the journal entry in first person/narrative form and use the word, "I".

Make sure you title your Google Doc with 7B; your name; Lewis & Clark Assignment. When you have finished, please turn it in, do not share it.
This is worth a quiz grade. Be creative but factual and make sure you do not copy information word for word! If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].
