Celebrations of Faith
The Pastor, parish staff, teachers and Catechists teach the Sacramental programs for Holy Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation. They plan programs which include parent participation and involvement. Each Sacramental preparation program begins with a parent meeting. Students in grade 2 prepare for both Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. Confirmation at St. Francis de Sales is for high school students and is offered through the Youth Ministry Department of the Church. The Confirmation program is a two-year journey of Sacramental preparation.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to students during Lent and Advent.
Catholic Schools Week
We celebrate Catholic Schools Week the last week of January, as designated by the Archdiocese of Chicago. During this week, St. Francis de Sales hosts several Open House events for prospective families to visit and experience all that our school has to offer. A special school Mass is celebrated where the students are encouraged to invite a Very Important Person to join them. After the Mass, students and their VIP's attend a breakfast reception in the school. Additionally, the National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony is held in the Church.
Stations of the Cross
During Lent, different grade levels celebrate the Stations of the Cross on Fridays. A special project for our fifth graders is to present the "Living Stations of the Cross" to the parish school and to the St. Francis de Sales community. The National Junior Honor Society also brings the school together for a meditative Stations of the Cross.
May Crowning is a special prayer service honoring the Blessed Virgin held the Monday after Mother's Day. This is a special day for everyone, especially our second grade First Communicants and graduating eighth graders. The second graders wear their First Communion finery and the eighth graders wear their graduation gowns as they process in and crown our Blessed Mother.
End of Year Prayer Service and Mass
We reflect on our year at St. Francis de Sales at a prayer service and Mass held on the last full day of school. This is a time to present the school theme for the next year. Student leaders speak and each class is recognized.
