Spirit Day 2016 Overview

This fall, we will celebrate our 10th Annual Spirit Day! Our children have come to look forward to this fun school spirit event, and next year’s event will be no exception. We have another interactive, fun, and educational Cultural Arts program booked, along with spirited pep rally, inspirational prayer service, and of course, the Spirit Walk. As much as Spirit Day is a memorable event for our students, it is a fundraiser.

In fact, in past years, Spirit Day proceeds represented 75% of the PTO’s fundraising budget for the entire school year. Due to discontinuation of three fundraisers, Target Red Card, Campbell’s Soup Labels and Innisbrook, Spirit Day will represent closer to 90% of the fundraising budget in 2016-17.

As parents, you may wonder what is done with the funds raised and if the funds directly affect your child(ren)’s education. In 2015, PTO fundraising, along with the Rice Foundation Grant, has enabled the purchase of Chromebooks for approximately half of the school, along with contributing to the school’s technology infrastructure, providing server upgrades, educational software for the classroom, accessories for technology devices, and support of the STEM initiative. All of these directly enhance classroom functionality and education. Upcoming purchases planned, using 2015-16 school year funds, include providing tablets to the grades who did not receive them before, software licensing, on-site IT support at least twice per week, access to a technology consultant for curriculum, technology plans, and training, as well as numerous other educational expenses.

These investments are critical to keeping St. Francis on the cutting edge of educational materials and technology. We hope that you will join us by prayerfully considering your pledge for the 2016-17 Spirit Day, and if possible, by donating a few hours of your time to help make Spirit Day happen.
