Spirit Day: September 21, 2018

What is Spirit Day?

St. Francis de Sales School will celebrate our 12th annual Spirit Day on Friday, September 21st. Gillis 1/2B Homeroom (2016-17 Academic Year) won the slogan competition and set our theme for the following year: the winning slogan is Let Your Eagle Spirit Fly High! Thank you to all participating classrooms and parents who encouraged engagement at home.

Spirit Day is a time for students, parents, teachers, and community members to come together with Father Ryan and Principal Schmitt and to celebrate our amazing school. A lot goes into Spirit Day: many volunteers and many business sponsors contribute to making this our school’s largest PTO fundraiser. Spirit Day is an important source of funds for school improvements and programs for our students: technology updates and PTO programs as well as special fundraising goals determined every year with feedback from the PTO parent and teacher survey.

Fundraising Goals

Like last year, our goal is to get 100% participation for each student to raise at least $75 by selling raffle tickets or gathering tax-deductible donations. Also like last year, our business sponsorship team is soliciting renewal sponsorships and new sponsorships from local businesses. This year we are partnering with the golf outing event and framing up an additional pasta dinner fundraising event.

Why do we fundraise? We apply the proceeds from Spirit Day to fundraising goals that are set in partnership with Principal Schmitt and from parent and teacher feedback from PTO  surveys. There are some goals that repeat year over year (technology updates and PTO programs) and some new ones added every year per feedback and special interests. On slide 3 of the above QR code, you can read how we spent the money raised last year.

The specific items we plan to invest in with 2018 proceeds include:

Technology updates
STEM Lab development
Teacher-driven innovation, including extra-curricular program expansion
PTO activities
